A compact, evergreen heavenly bamboo prized for its vivid red young foliage maturing to green and flushing rich red again in colder weather. In summer it produces airy sprays of small white flowers. Ideal for containers and small borders, adding architectural structure and fitting beautifully into Asian-inspired schemes. Grow in moisture-retentive but well-drained, moderately fertile soil, preferably acid to neutral, in full sun or light shade; best leaf colour develops with more sun and a sheltered site. Eventual size around 6090 cm, forming a neat, bushy mound; naturally slow growing and hardy in most UK regions (RHS H5).
