‘Valentine’ is an early variety with deep pink, thick stems, ready for harvesting from early May.
Height ad Spread: 1 x 1 m.
Position: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Moist but well-drained.
Growing rhubarb:
Plant your dormant crowns in late winter and early spring in a sunny site, after digging a good amount of well-rotted manure. The tip of the crown should be visible.
If planting more than one crown, plant at least 90cm apart. Indeed rhubarb needs a fair bit of space.
Harvesting: do not harvest the first year, and pick only a few stems the following year to allow the plant to become more vigourous. In general, never harvest more than a third of the plant at the time.
