Like many Hoyas from this area, it is treasured by collectors for its bold, glossy foliage and breathtakingly vibrant flowers. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is one of the standout species for those who appreciate richly coloured blooms and tropical elegance.
The leaves are medium to large, oval, and leathery, with a glossy surface and prominent veining. They are typically deep green, sometimes showing a subtle red blush on newer growth under strong light. The plants vining nature allows it to climb or trail gracefully, making it ideal for hanging baskets, trellises, or decorative supports.
When mature, Hoya ranauensis produces umbels of spectacular, star-shaped flowers that range in colour from bright yellow to deep orange-red, depending on light and maturity. Each flower has a waxy finish and a richly contrasting red or maroon corona, releasing a sweet fragrance in the evening. These radiant blooms make it one of the most visually striking Hoyas in cultivation.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun enhances both leaf colour and flowering. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can burn foliage.
Water when the top 23 cm of soil feels dry. This semi-succulent species prefers to dry slightly between waterings but should not be left completely dry for extended periods. Reduce watering in winter.
