Sarcococca confusa is a compact, evergreen shrub valued for its glossy deep green foliage and intensely fragrant, creamy-white winter flowers from December to March, often followed by shiny black berries. Slow growing and dependable in partial to full shade, it thrives in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, moderately fertile soil and is ideal near paths or doorways where its scent can be enjoyed; it will tolerate dry shade once established. Ultimate size around 1.5m; minimal pruning is needed, just a light trim after flowering if required.
