Native to the humid lowland rainforests of Costa Rica and Panama, this epiphytic member of the Araceae family brings a touch of wild, tropical grace to any collection.
Unlike most Anthuriums, A. wendlingeri grows as a pendant plant, with long, strap-shaped leaves that can exceed one metre in length when mature. The leathery leaves hang gracefully from the base, forming a natural waterfall of green. Its most distinctive feature, however, is its unusual corkscrew-shaped spadix, which emerges from the foliage like a sculptural spiral a botanical curiosity that sets it apart even among rare Anthuriums.

Prefers bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Too much direct sunlight may scorch the leaves, while insufficient light can slow growth and dull their deep green colour. A position near an east-facing window or under filtered light in a greenhouse cabinet is ideal.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 23 cm feels dry to the touch. The roots prefer steady moisture with excellent aeration. Reduce watering during cooler months, allowing the soil to dry slightly more between waterings.

Feed every 46 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. A slow-release aroid or orchid feed can also be used for consistent nutrition. Suspend feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.
