Sansevieria Moonshine Splash Variegata is a rare and exceptionally beautiful cultivar of the snake plant family, treasured for its luminous foliage and unique variegation. Like all Sansevierias, it originates from Africa and Asia, where these hardy succulents have adapted to thrive in hot, arid environments.
This variety is a mutation of the popular Sansevieria Moonshine, which is admired for its pale silvery-green leaves. The Splash Variegata form adds a further level of elegance with irregular vertical splashes, streaks, and margins of creamy white, golden-yellow, or lime running through the foliage. The upright, lance-shaped leaves form compact rosettes, giving the plant an architectural presence perfect for modern interiors.
Typically, Moonshine Splash Variegata grows to 3050 cm tall, remaining smaller than tall-growing cultivars such as Laurentii, making it ideal for desktops, shelves, and tabletops. Each leafs variegation pattern is unique, making it a living work of art.
Thrives in bright, indirect light, which enhances the pale colouring and variegation. It will tolerate medium or even low light but may lose some vibrancy. Avoid harsh, direct sun which can scorch pale sections.
Extremely drought tolerant. Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings. In summer, water every 23 weeks; in winter, reduce to once a month or less. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure.
Temperature: Prefers 1828C. Must be kept above 10C.
Humidity: Adapts well to dry indoor air; no additional humidity required.
Plant in a gritty, free-draining cactus or succulent compost. Repot every 23 years in spring when clumps outgrow their container. Sansevierias prefer to be slightly root-bound.
Apply a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser once a month during spring and summer. Do not feed in winter.
Remove old or damaged leaves at the base. Wipe foliage with a soft cloth to maintain its silvery sheen and highlight the variegation.
A slow-growing, compact cultivar reaching 3050 cm tall. Produces offsets over time, forming decorative clumps. Mature plants may occasionally bloom, producing fragrant, greenish-white flower spikes.
Yellow/mushy leaves: A sign of overwatering.
Wrinkled leaves: Underwatering water thoroughly, then allow to dry again.
Pests: Rare, but may occasionally attract mealybugs or spider mites.
Sansevierias are famously resilient and have been cultivated for centuries as ornamental and functional plants. NASA studies have also highlighted their air-purifying qualities. The Moonshine Splash Variegata is especially prized among collectors for its soft silvery leaves patterned with luminous splashes of white and yellow, making it a true showpiece.
