A member of the Marantaceae family, it originates from the rainforests of Brazil, where it grows as a low, spreading groundcover under the forest canopy.
The oval leaves are a deep, velvety green with bright pink-red veins radiating from the midrib, forming a feather-like pattern. The undersides are rich burgundy-purple, creating beautiful contrast. The common name Prayer Plant refers to the plants fascinating nyctinastic behaviour its leaves fold upward at night like hands in prayer, then open again at dawn.
