This XL specimen showcases a mature, rounded dome body with strong rib definition and a smooth, glossy surface that can appear jet-black, charcoal, or deep burgundy depending on the light. The contrast between its dark skin and its short, symmetrical spines creates a sculptural, almost gothic aesthetic. In summer, it may produce small, silky flowers in shades of pink or pale cream a stunning contrast against its dark body.

Thrives in bright, indirect to filtered light. Strong light deepens the black coloration, but avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the epidermis of dark cultivars. A bright windowsill or bright shade in a greenhouse is ideal.
Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess drain away. Overwatering is the greatest risk for Gymnocalyciums. In winter, water only once every 46 weeks as the plant enters dormancy.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 1830 C. Avoid temperatures below 10 C, especially for variegated or dark cultivars.
Humidity: Low to average humidity is best. Provide good airflow to prevent fungal issues.
